A lovely tale of Jack and Jill

Ruby Naaz adopted Jack (male Persian cat) and Jill(female Persian cat) in Dec '2022 from a family in Shivajinagar, through a pet-adoption community’s supervision. In April 2022, she lost her cat named Leo overnight. He was attacked by dogs and Ruby was devastated, to say the least, to find his bleeding body early in the morning. She would never have got over it for Jack and Jill made their way into her life. Today, Ruby remembers Leo only for his joyful memories and not the painful accident — accepting his death equally as his life.

Earlier, Ruby thought it would be difficult for her to have two cats as she was a mother to just one - Leo. But the lady who got in touch with her on the adoption enquiry, pressed upon adopting two cats, saying, “You are the perfect candidate to adopt Jack and Jill, they won’t be safe elsewhere, the breeders are brutal with pure Persian cats. They are very docile and will keep each other company when you are away. Please take them, we don’t want them to be separated.” And just like that, she agreed with her and adopted Jack and Jill. They were over 9 months old, born in the same litter, not vaccines, with mites and fleas, and not litter box trained. The first month of their arrival was all about multiple trips to the vet for vaccines, hygiene checks, and neutering plans. Then there was getting used to their thick fur coat and excessive shedding, but half-yearly grooming came to the rescue.

"I must admit, this was getting heavy on my pocket, but their innocent touch of goodness reminded me that to adopt them was not my noble action but a selfish choice. A selfish choice to uplift my mental well-being by bettering their standard of living. As they never asked for anything but simple food and shelter," shared Ruby, a beautiful poet.

She further added, "My mornings begin with them, I wouldn’t have it any other way. They are trustworthy inspectors who detect unsaid intentions of a person or a place. They never tried to substitute Leo, as Jack and Jill have their unique personality. They taught me to commit to goodness and kindness against all odds. They have taught me patience and the language of silence in multiple folds."
