Filling the void in our lives!

"Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them and filling an emptiness we didn't ever know we had," and this quote is so true for Hasitha’s life.

She has been trying to get a pet for some time but somehow things didn't work out and she got busy with life. On a Christmas morning in 2017, when they were sitting at home, she randomly told her brother that maybe they should get a dog. Within an hour they were out looking for puppies and the moment they saw a puppy who was all excited and jumping around in his cage looking at them, she knew that the pup was coming home with them.

They never had any experience on taking care of dogs and he was so tiny that they were scared to sleep with him in bed for a few days, so she and her brother took turns to sit with him through the night. Slowly they started figuring things out and their lives started revolving around buddy. Buddy came into their lives when they were still grieving the loss of her dad. Buddy gave them emotional support and he somehow knows whenever she is low even before she realizes it.

After a few months with Buddy, she found her connection with animals and started volunteering at BlueCross and her weekends were always spent there.

“I started meeting people and other dogs during his walks. During one such walk a few years ago, I saw my street dog Twinkle lying beside her 1-month-old pup. When I went closer, I realized the pup passed away and twinkle wasn't ready to move from there no matter how much we tried. Just a few days later one of her other pups fell into a pit in a construction site. Somehow it was rescued with the help of our watchman,” said Hasitha.

That day she realized, feeding dogs is good but the best thing she can do to stop this suffering is sterilization/ Animal Birth Control. Very soon, she became a part of MARG Animal rescue group, a group of volunteers passionate to be the voice of the voiceless. She asked for guidance in the group and soon twinkle was sent for sterilization to BlueCross with a few other dogs. Now she is happily roaming around their streets.
