I gave her a home and she gave me everything

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.

Since the time her friend left for the US, Yvonne had always wanted to own a pet. It was a hot summer evening and Yvonne was out for a stroll to get rid of the immense loneliness at home. It was at this moment when she spotted a sick dog around the corner of the road and she quickly bought a packet of biscuits to feed it. We all at some point of time feel that’s the most we can do for the stray animals. But Mishti was different. She refused to eat and Yvonne walked away.

But Mishti followed her back home. "It was as if she belonged to me. She followed me everywhere I went. It was at this time that I decided to bring her home. The amount of comfort and warmth she showered on me, made me melt. As the days went by Mishti proved to be a loyal companion. She was intelligent and grew up to be a beautiful dog. Every time I was back, after a day's work, she greeted me with utmost excitement, making me forget all my worries. My mornings began with her hugs and warm kisses. And my night ended with warm cuddles," shared Yvonne who is a teacher by profession.

Her mother who was apprehensive about taking in a stray dog was completely astonished, to see the joy Mishti brought into our lives. Mishti would chase away the cats and bark at birds making them giggle at her innocence. The moment she saw water, she would go crazy as she loved her baths. Taking care of her and spending time with her soothed Yvonne's loneliness. "No matter where I went, I knew a ball of fur waited for me at home with all her eagerness. Mishti is the best thing that ever happened to me! I am proud that I own an indigenous Indian dog. She is very adaptable and an excellent pet companion. We always tend to ignore the choices that come for free our way. I am glad that I did not buy a pedigree dog and chose Mishti- a stray. I gave her a home and she gave me everything. I mean the world to her and vice versa," concluded Yvonne.
