Post his transplant, he had a hole in his chest, and he couldn't feel his own heart, but Leo was there to fill the void. Yes, this is a true story of Maanas and how his pet Leo helped him to cope with the challenges in life. On the occasion of National Dogs Day, PawsAyur celebrates all the contributions made by pet parents and raising these furry friends.
Maanas brought Leo into their home in May 2021. His parents brought Leo to cheer him up after his sudden heart transplant. Even though I was 7000 km away, seeing him on WhatsApp video calls made me feel better.
“By the time I came back from the US after my transplant, I was extremely depressed and suicidal. I couldn't share the grief and explain the loss of my professional and personal life achievements. I had to give up on my PhD and come back due to my stress levels,” shared Maanas.
Speaking to PawsAyur, he said, “I felt I could talk to Leo, and he wouldn't judge me. I don't know if God was beside me to help, but I was glad I had Leo by my side to help me out of the slump.”
Emotionally speaking, Maanas shared that Leo balanced his life and brought him back to a new normal. “My medical and professional tragedy, along with my other personal tragedies, turned my family into a toxic mixture of blaming and shouting at each other. After having Leo with us, I think having him has healed us as a family to unite us. Once, my dad and I got angry and started a war of words, and Leo just ran to me and started nuzzling me to pet him, and it melted both of our hearts. Leo is the bedrock of my sanity; staying with him and having him love me. He has, in part, inspired me to move on and build my life back.”
