Making a difference in the lives of animals

When Gnani returned to India from New Zealand, she had a pleasant surprise by Michu, planned by her family and friends. She wanted a pet for a long time, and the loss of her mother compelled her to think about it seriously, as she thought a pet could be a really good companion for her dad. And all of it happened serendipitously.

Michu joined their family as soon as she landed in India, around a month before her wedding. It was a challenging job initially as Michu was her first ever pet and she wasn’t sure if she could stay with her by the time she got settled in life. However, Gnani's husband was very supportive and even contemplated on how a newlywed couple needs to have a pet to know the responsibilities and commitments in life, which makes things a lot easier.

In terms of lifestyle, they are more active, and attentive and feel more loved than ever so it has all been mostly positive. But it is always a challenge in the beginning especially when you have no prior experience with pets.

Michu, as the name suggests, feels like a real divine gift. "She has not only made us more disciplined but also made us more in tune with the voiceless. We started advocating more for the welfare of community dogs and have been trying to bring about a change in our own way," she shared.

Michu's presence in her life sparked a profound transformation, leading her to join the Marg Animal Rescue group, a compassionate volunteer-driven organization dedicated to helping those without a voice. Her first rescue was a Labrador named Nyra, whose timidness and fear of her surroundings tugged at her heart. With the support of her friends, who generously contributed to her spaying and vaccinations, they were able to nurture her back to health. "Eventually, Nyra found her forever home on a farm, adopted alongside another male Labrador. Witnessing her journey to happiness has deeply inspired me and galvanized my commitment to rescue work. I've truly found my happy place in making a meaningful difference in the lives of these animals," she concluded.
