When Pets help getting over our own fears

It just sort of just happened. Adrija had moved into a bigger space and her best friend always knew that she wanted one pet. Surprisingly, one fine day she just got this tiny little German shepherd pup, and that’s how Gabbar came into Adrija’s life 4 years ago, and life has never been the same!

Adrija says her lifestyle has become more active and livelier. No matter how low she is feeling, he gets her out of bed and does things. He has this wonderful infectious energy and resilience that just rubs off on you!

“I have become healthier too. I have started going into nature, water and even on treks because I want to provide him with the best life I can! In fact, I got over my fear of getting into water so I could enjoy it with him. It’s fulfilling to see him hop around and swim in lakes. It’s like everything around me is brighter and nicer,” she shared while speaking on lifestyle changes.

She also shared that Gabbar coming into her life changed her perception of what dog training is. She always thought it was about obedience and wanted him trained, but the first time she taught him something on her own, it opened up her mind and she realized, it's just the start of a two-way communication. He was no longer a pet, he became someone whom she wanted to know the best she could, and that led to her becoming a trainer, and now a certified behaviorist! It sort of feels like Gabbar has taught her more than she has taught him, you know?

Speaking to PawsAyur, she said, “It's a two-way street, honestly. We're both there to pick the other up when either of us is having a bad day. Honestly, it just makes things lighter. When I’m low, he just senses it and curls up to me, and it feels like a load has been lifted!”

“My mother, who was quite okay with dogs but didn't get the concept of pets, realised what a great and fulfilling relationship it can be with a dog in the house, and she adores him completely. He's a family member now, not a pet! During Janmashtami, my mother literally treats him like a little boy and pampers him with homemade butter,” concluded Adrija.
