When your pet saves a life of another puppy

Jayashree lost her dog Trixy in 2016 and since then she has been a volunteer for a few NGOs working for Animal welfare in Hyderabad helping to get Indie pups adopted at adoption drives.

One puppy which was rescued from the street was adopted by a family for 2 months. They abused the pup and handed over the pup to the animal shelter. Her health deterioratd in the shelter and when Jayashree came to know this, she got her back only to know that she had high tick fever and had 2 broken bones. Her treatment started and she put her up again for adoption and waited for 2 more months but lost hope.

Slowly being a foster mother to her, Jayashree fell in love with her and decided that she will adopt her for life. They named her Jaanu aka Janaki and since then she has been the JAAN of their family.

"Adopting a pet is a huge responsibility and a commitment. They are no less than human kids as equal attention and responsibility needs to be taken. There are a few life style changes which we adapt once a pet comes home and these are all positive changes. We started socialising more with neighbours and meeting new people during her walks is a routine," said Jayashree.

Daily walks and routine to ensure her care has helped them to adopt a more healthy life style and they often choose pet friendly places to spend time over the weekend as well.

Positivity and stress free life is what pets teach us. No matter how your day goes, coming home to pets relieves us from all the work stress. Spending time with them is therapeutic.

Pets have a power to sense when we are low in mood. Lot of therapists suggest having a pet to battle anxiety and depression in general. It gives a sense of calmness to have a pet around and definitely drives away loneliness.

"During early morning walk Jaanu was insisting on running towards a barren land. I was confused as to why she was so determined to pull me towards that side. Then I saw a puppy breathing heavily and not in conciousness. I picked up the puppy and rushed to the vet meanwhile Jaanu stayed calm and observed everything. It was surprising to me as to how she could sence another animal in need and helped to save a life," she concluded.
